Overview
Care after seventy is rarely about a single disease. It is about five prescriptions from three specialists, a fall six months ago that quietly shrank someone's world, a memory lapse the family has started noticing, and the appetite that has been fading since a spouse died. Treating any one of these without the others helps very little.
Geriatric homeopathic care in our clinic is deliberately conservative and coordinated. We focus on function — walking, continence, sleep, appetite, cognition and independence — and on reducing avoidable symptom burden without adding to an already crowded medicine list.
Stair-only walk-up buildings, uneven pavements and monsoon-slippery floors make falls a leading local risk, so home-safety review is part of every elderly consultation here.
Treatment Approach
- Full medication review at the first visit to identify interactions, duplication and drugs raising fall risk
- Formal falls-risk and home-safety assessment, including footwear, lighting, bathroom grab-bars and floor surfaces
- Cognitive concerns screened and referred to a neurologist or geriatrician rather than managed with remedies alone
- Family caregivers included in every plan, with written instructions rather than verbal advice
Lifestyle Guidance
- Daily protein intake and resistance exercise slow sarcopenia — the strongest determinant of continued independence
- Balance work such as tai chi or supervised standing exercises measurably reduces falls
- Check vitamin D, B12 and hearing; deficiency and hearing loss are common, treatable and often mistaken for decline
- Keep one written medicine chart in the home, shared across all doctors and family members
When to Seek Immediate Medical Care
- Sudden confusion or a change in behaviour — often infection, dehydration or a drug effect, and needs same-day assessment
- Any fall with head injury, especially on blood thinners — emergency evaluation
- New weakness on one side, or slurred speech — call emergency services immediately
